Berkeley Women in Business (BWIB) has prided itself for being the only campus organization that addresses the unique needs of women entering the corporate industry. Among BWIB’s numerous career and skill development programs is their Ernst and Young (EY) Resume Critique Workshop, a popular event that the organization holds annually in partnership with their corporate sponsor during the Fall recruiting season.
During the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to hear firsthand from experienced Ernst and Young professionals about what makes a resume stand out. They also receive personalized feedback from an EY representative on how to improve it and succeed in your next job interview. Although it is recommended that workshop participants come in with a draft resume, attendees can always learn to make one at the event.
Another successful aspect of the workshop is the huge boost of confidence that attendees feel about their experiences after connecting with E&Y professionals, allowing them to perform exceptionally in their recruiting endeavors. I’ve included blurbs from previous event participants on the advantages the workshop has provided them in their job hunts.

BWIB President, A.Y. 2013-2014
“Before even knowing I wanted to pursue a career in public accounting, I attended BWIB’s annual Ernst & Young Resume Critique. It was the beginning of my sophomore year, and I remember being so nervous to show anyone my resume. Little did I know one of the first people to take a look at my resume would be the EY campus recruiter. The feedback and tips she gave not only helped me to understand what professionals look for in a resume, but also gave me the confidence I needed to seek out the opportunities I was interested in pursuing. That boost of confidence, as well as the professionals’ willingness to help our members, are some factors that eventually led me to pursue an internship with EY a year later.”

“The Ernst & Young Resume Workshop and Networking event provided great practice for other networking events I attended as a sophomore and junior. The E&Y professionals showed me how to properly introduce myself to make the best impression.”
Justina Nguyen, B.S. Business Administration, 2014
CBS Interactive Audience Development Intern, Summer 2013
BWIB Internal Relations Committee Member, A.Y. 2012-2013
“Having been my first semester at Cal, the Ernst & Young Resume critique is one of the most helpful resume workshops that I’ve been to. It’s a unique event in that one has the chance to network with an amazing company and receive personal help with one’s resume. Networking events are always bustling but this EY event creates an intimate atmosphere in which you can really connect with the professionals and they can connect with you. Instead of recruiters taking 30 second glances at your resume, the EY professionals take the time to pour over what you’ve created and offer genuine suggestions and revisions. If you haven’t been to it yet, I highly suggest you attend BWIB’s EY event this semester. You get the chance to meet amazing people and have quality networking time.”

“The EY Resume Critique Event made me a more competitive recruit by drastically improving my resume and cover letter. From the content and diction to the layout and font choice, EY professionals patiently looked through my resume and left no stone unturned.”
