2009 New Zealand Case Competition Part 7

Blog Post #7 from Champions Trophy Case Competition in New Zealand

We have gone from eggs, and ambulances to refrigerators and washing machines. Today the final case was Fisher and Paykel Appliances, an NZ company. The charge was to point out at the key issues that they were facing in light of the economic downturn and the need for growth. How were they going to expand and where were they going to go to do this?

Our Berkeley team did a fantastic job, their presentations as always are alive, smart and balanced. The team did a great job of working together and creating a good sound strategy. We came in third, which was a bit of a disappointment for the team, but in their hearts and mine I knew they were the winners (some others thought they should have been placed better too!). So the standings were:

  1. Singapore Management University
  2. University of Washington
  3. UC Berkeley
  4. National Unviersity of Singapore

We received a beautiful statues made in New Zealand that will always bring the cultures and the traditions of New Zealand to mind when viewing it.

Congratulations to Davis Liu, Terence Kim, Kristena Shen and Rahul Deedwania for an amazing week. It was a wonderful trip.
