Haas Sponsored Fun: Rushing With Alpha Kappa Psi

Every month the Haas Undergraduate Blog and Haas Sponsored organizations will bring you new insights about the social atmosphere at the Haas School. You’ll hear about what it’s like to be part of the many organizations on campus and what great events they host.

Welcome back to Spring 2013 everyone. Can you believe that it’s already the first week of the spring semester? Many juniors must be preparing nervously for recruiting, while seniors are preparing to wrap up their college careers. As for myself, I just came back from a very special trip from Asia. This break, being my last, was especially precious and memorable because I got to spend it with my friends from my business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi.

AKPsiPIC

Founded in 1904, Alpha Kappa Psi is the oldest and largest co-ed business fraternity in the world. In Berkeley, we currently have around 50 active members and hundreds of alumni around the world in many different fields, including accounting, banking, consulting, marketing, technology, entertainment and more. Alpha Kappa Psi fosters a tight-knit and encouraging community in which you can grow as a student and professional. Alpha Kappa Psi offers an unparalleled alumni network and opportunities that enable brothers to remain in close contact with prestigious working professionals.

Joining a business fraternity will provide you with an entirely new experience. While the ‘pledging process’ may require a lot of time and effort, you will be surprised at how much you can learn and progress in such a short period of time. Though every class has a very different experience, I can guarantee that the more you put into the fraternity, the more you will gain from it. The bond created within the semester will leave you with brothers who will grow up to become your best man and bridesmaids in your wedding.

For the past two years, joining Alpha Kappa Psi has opened me up to many new challenges and memories. Throughout the 9 weeks of pledging, I learned to work in teams with complete strangers and quickly became both their best friends and partners in crime. My best memories in college include traveling to Singapore with my pledge brother Ryan through the Haas External Case Competition Team, and traveling to Taiwan with 15 brothers across four pledge classes this winter break. Alpha Kappa Psi is a community full of motivated, genuine, and fun individuals who are ready to make a difference in their fields.

In addition, my experience at Haas would not have been the same without my AKPsi brothers. Having taken a semester off due to personal reasons, coming back to Haas in Spring 2012 was very intimidating. With Spring recruiting and Upper division classes in hand, I was struggling to readjust my life at Berkeley. It is times like these when I felt the most love from my fraternity brothers. They extended their hands without question, and I had a community that I could immediately fall back on for support.
